From a tech point of view, I've got a notebooks of ideas.
From a business point of view, the industry is way overpriced. Who pays 2k per kite?!
It used to be 1k and the industry was booming. I would literally be annoyed by the amount of people in the water. Today you can clearly see the decline in people willing to pay the money.
I looked into the logistical aspects of the industry and they are terrible. There are so many intermediates. Eliminating those would already scrap a good chunk of costs.
Then, there are some weird marketing strategies employed. For example, every year a new kite is released. It is then labeled, for example "Ozone C4 2018" edition. Difference between 2017? The color scheme.
People know that, and they wait couple of years before they buy new gear. Not uncommon to buy 2016 gear in 2018 nowadays.
So yeah, I would compete mostly on price. Normally, I am against such practises, but this is an amazing sport. I want it to flourish and I want as many people as possible to experience it. These wishes impose requirements on the price point
