Is there a corporate ladder system in remote companies that's similar to location-based jobs?

Definitely! For example, at my company (travel planning agency) we start as agents and from there, as the company grows as well (which it is doing significantly), positions start to open up such as Sales Manager, Dev/tech jobs, Customer Success and Client Management.

So depending on your performance, which is reviewed briefly weekly and then quarterly by different members of the team, they can see where you may be the best fit and is also based on your interests, where you could see yourself moving towards. Internal employees are usually given the chance first before looking elsewhere for higher positions.
