The number one thing you need to have clear in mind when creating and engaging a community is the reason these people are coming together. You need to put yourself in their shoes and understand what are the relevant information and activities that can add value to the members, including the channel(s) to use to communicate. If they see and recognize this value they're more likely to engage and be an active part of the community and, in the long-term, contribute to its growth and wellbeing. Maintaining long-lasting engagement requires for the community facilitator to do this exercise of empathy and curation with regularity and passion, always listening to the community for feedback and comments to improve the experience for everyone involved.
