The Pareto principle helped me quite a bit in that regard. By analyzing my client base, I was able to determine which clients I was able to provide consistent results with.
Those clients who had seen consistent results through my work were usually a lot more open to renegotiating rates. Back in the day, few people wanted to go through the process of finding another marketer who is knowledgeable about their products and can get great results.
It's usually a win-win situation.
I had to cut off the clients who were not open to me raising my rates.
