Answered by Kristin Wilson, relocation consultant
Relocation is not the best remote business, because it involves relocating people. Since I can only be in one place at a time, I have to hire sub-contractors in each physical location. Most relocation companies have a physical office in their geographical area of expertise. In my case, I specialize in a process which can be applied to most countries, and I have a global network that allows me to manage relocations in different places. This is quite challenging, but on the plus side, I don't have much competition because it's hard to replicate. Relocation is also not very scalable. So to expand, you need more human resources. The aspects of a relocation business which are best suited for remote operations have to do with housing (as a database) or online courses and informational products, which I am now developing after so many years doing things one-on-one.
